Sections/Banquet

The season came to an end yesterday at the Section 5AA Meet at Anoka High School, but without the boys putting forth their best effort of the season finishing in 4th out of 15 teams in a tight race for the 2nd spot to make it to State, finishing just 16 points out of second, as 6 teams fought for that last spot and were less than 30 points apart.  Jackson B, 11th, also just missed making it to State, as he lead the way for the boys.  On the JV side, the boys finished in a solid 3rd place, despite missing four of the top JV performers, and were paced by the 9th place finish of Emmett H.  17 Cardinal runners ran personal bests, while another 2 ran season bests.  Great work and an awesome season boys!!

As for our banquet, it will be on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012 starting at 6:30 at the CRHS Cafeteria.  This will be a Pot Luck affair with each grade of athletes bringing the following:

Seniors: Entrees
Juniors: Salads
Sophomores: Beverages
Freshmen:  Desserts and/or Beverages

Please note that there are 34 members of the team, plus two coaches and a manager, as well as family members of these athletes that will be attending, so please bring accordingly.  All paper plates, napkins, cups, and silverware will be provided.

This will be a night in which we will be handing out all team awards and such, so we do appreciate you being apart of this event to celebrate the accomplishments of the athletes and the team.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me

Sections

Good Morning!
This is the week of Sections, this will be the last week of practice and racing for much of the team.  We will have practice every day this week for all runners, even those that don't qualify for the State Meet.
Information about the banquet, which is on Thursday, Nov. 8 at 6:30 in the High School Cafeteria, will be sent home with the runners and posted on here in the next day or two.
As for the Section Meet, there will be a Varsity and a JV race.  Varsity will be running at 4:00 and the JV team will be running at 4:30.  The Meet will be held at Anoka High School on the south end of the school property.  Parking should not be an issue, but still give yourself time to get there because there will be a lot of people there watching.  Also, coming from Anoka High School, do not bring any dogs to the meet.  They are not wanting any there.  Don't think we have ever had a problem with this, but just passing along the information.  There will also be concessions and T-shirt sales.
Finally, congrats to the boys for winning the Cambridge Last Chance Invite last week.  Times were a little slow on the course, but history has shown that the course has usually run fairly slow for a lot of teams.  But, it was a nice day to get out and continue to work on things and prep ourselves for this week.  The top 2 teams on Thursday will qualify for the State Meet, which is on Saturday, Nov 3 at St Olaf College in Northfield, as well as the 8 fastest runners that are not on a qualifying team.
Any questions, please let me know.

Cambridge Invite

Good Morning!
Congrats first of all to the team for a solid performance at last weeks NWSC Conference Meet.  The boys finished in 4th, but had three members of the All Conference team, Jackson B., David D., and Michael C., and one finish with All Conference Honorable Mention, Nathan H.  The JV team also performed well, finishing in 3rd, and had two top 10 finishers, race winner Abdi A., and Paul B in 8th.

As for this week, we are at the Cambridge Invite on Tuesday at the Grandy Nine Golf Course (directions to the course below), and we will have the whole team running in one race, the Varsity/JV race, which will start at 4:00.  This will be a fun time for the runners, since they usually don't get this opportunity.
Also, with no school on Wednesday through Friday, the practice schedule will be different.  I understand that some will be busy or heading out of town, so please let me know so I can be prepared for how many to expect at each practice.  Also, please make sure, if a runner is going to be gone, that they get the workouts from myself so they can stay prepared for the Section Meet.
Schedule is:
Wednesday, 10:00am at CR Dam
Thursday, 10:00am at Bunker Hills
Friday, 9:30am, meet at CRHS, then driving to Anoka High School to run on Section course.

If you have any questions, please let me know!
Thanks

Conference Meet

Good Morning!
Last Thursday the boys competed at the Blaine Invite and had a solid performance despite the colder temps and high winds, plus being a little short handed on the Varsity.  Varsity finished in 9th  out of 15 teams in the Blue Division race and were led by Michael C and Stephen C.  The JV team had a very solid race with many runners having personal bests or season bests, and were able to easily win the JV race!  Leading the way for the Cards were Paul B., 2nd, and Abdi A., 3rd, with Corey V 12th and John K 16th close behind.

This is the week of the Northwest Suburban Conference Meet, which is to be held at the Elk River Country Club, off of County Road 1 north of Elk River.
The first race of the day will begin at 3:30, with the Varsity boys running at 4:10 and the JV boys running at 5:10.  Everyone on our team will be running one of the two races and everyone will be running 5K.  The course will be a two lap course, so there will be opportunities to see everyone a few times.
To go along with this, there will be 11 teams there, and parking is limited, so please plan accordingly.
Any questions, please let me know!

On Saturday, the Varsity competed against 400+ other runners and 44 teams in the Griak Invite and finished in a solid 33rd place, 13th amongst Minnesota schools.  Jackson B (82nd) and David D (98th) helped lead the way.

Apple Valley/Week Ahead

Apple Valley
The Eagle Invite at Apple Valley wasn't quite the meet the team was hoping for, but it was one in which to learn from and to motivate those that struggled and for the team to come together.  The Varsity finished 12th out of 22 teams, led by Jackson B in 16th and David D in 28th.  The JV team was dealing with the absence of a few and illness in a couple of others, but held their own and finished in 13th out 24 teams, with Emmett H having another solid race finishing 27th out of 455 runners.  Paul B continues to have a solid first year as he was the top Cardinal finisher of the day, finishing in 2nd in the 9th Grade and Under race to help the team finish in 9th out of 16 teams.

Next Up:
Mustang Invite on Friday, Sep. 28th at Chippewa Middle School in North Oaks: 5000 Hodgson Road, North Oaks, 55126, which will be for our JV boys that are not racing on Saturday.  We will have boys in both the Gold and Green race, but need to talk to the Middle School boys to see if they are wanting to run a 5K or the JH/MS race.
Meet times and info on parking are at the bottom of this Post.
Also, the Griak Invite is on Saturday, Sep. 29th at the Les Bolstad Golf Course on the campus of the U of M.  The Varsity will be racing at 2:00, and will be wearing our Black Uniforms for this race. There is a cost to enter:

$5.00 for adults and $2.00 for College/High School students/youth (kids 2 & below free) and
seniors (age 62 & above).
Spectator Parking S101 (on the corner of Cleveland and Commonwealth) and the Gortner Ave Ramp. Shuttles will transport to the golf course. Park at your own risk on city streets.

If there is any questions, please let me know.
