Parent Meeting, Beginning of the Season

We are at the point of the summer where we as coaches are not allowed to work the runners until the start of the season, but that doesn't mean that there still isn't stuff to take care of. The Captains were sending out information about practices, but they are going to hold the, at the same time, at the same locations until the beginning of the season.
There will be an all sports parent meeting this Wednesday at 7:00 in the auditorium with Cross Country specific meeting right after to give out some basic info for the beginning of the season. Online registration should be open starting this coming Monday or you can register in person at the high school activities office. You must be signed up before you can start practicing with the team once the season begins.
The season will begin on Monday, August 14, and we will be meeting at the CR Dam at 8:00am. If you have any questions, I will be out of town for most of the next two weeks, so Wednesday's meeting will be your best option, as Coach Lauren will be there. If it is something big, I will try to get in touch with you.
Thanks,
Denny

Week of July 24

Well, time flies when you are having fun, and this is already the last week the coaches can work with the athletes this summer.  After this week, the next time we can work with them is when the season begins.
With that, here is this weeks schedule. Tuesday evening into Wednesday evening look a little questionable weather wise, so we will let you know if we have to make any changes. Coach Lauren and I talked about doing another lazy river night on Tuesday evening, but thinking it would be in our best interests at this time to just do practice as normal, so for those that can make the morning workouts, they at least get something in. We will discuss with those at practice on Monday.
9:30am or 7:00pm
Monday, meet at CR Dam
Tuesday, meet at CRHS
Wednesday, meet at CRHS
Thursday, meet at Bunker Golf Course, Lot 1
Friday, meet at CRHS
For those that are looking for a 5k to race, there is a challenging one in Elk River on Saturday morning. I will bring registration forms to practice. Even though this will be more challenging then most races we do during the season, it is still important to try and get at least one 5k race in before the season starts so you know where you stand and what you need to work on.
If you have any questions, please let me know.
Thanks,
Denny

Week of July 17

Here is the plan for this week.  The temps are starting to drop as we get closer to when we will be running, so I think we can safely predict what we are going to do, for at least the first part of the week.
Monday morning does not look like it is going to be as hot as once predicted, so we are going to stay with meeting at the CR Dam at 9:30 and doing our workout there.  However, Monday evening is still looking like it is going to be pretty steamy, so there will not be a evening practice on Monday. (If you are unable to make the morning practice, but still want to run, please use caution and don't over due the pace or the distance.)

Tuesday morning is looking like it might rain, which is not an issue, but we are wanting to do an alternate workout, so we will not be meeting in the morning, but we will meet at Bunker Beach at 7:00pm to do a workout in the lazy river.  Cost is $3 per person, and we would be going from 7:15-8:15pm. (If you cannot make the evening or are feeling pretty good, you can go out on a run of about 4 miles in the morning, or when you have time)

Wednesday through Friday currently look like we will be good to go with normal times and locations, so we will not change those at this time.  Wednesday and Friday at 9:30 at CRHS, Thursday at 9:30 at Bunker Golf Course, Lot 1.  If anything changes, I will let you know as soon as we make a decision.

Thanks again for all of those that helped and participated in the Deer Chase on Saturday!  If anyone has any suggestions on how to get more alumni to return, please let me know.

Thanks, and any questions, let me know!
Denny

Week of July 10

The coaches are allowed to work with the runners again, our blackout period is over.  We will continue to run our practices at the same times and locations, so as follows:
Monday - 9:30am at CR Dam
Tuesday - 9:30 at CRHS
Wednesday - 9:30 at CRHS
Thursday - 9:30 at Bunker
Friday - 9:30 at CRHS
We will also have the 7:00pm option for those that cannot make the morning training run at the same locations for that day.
The weather looks like it could play a small part in the training runs.  If it looks like heat will be an issue, we will do an alternative workout.  If it appears that rain/storms will be possible during the time of the training run, we will play those by ear.  As before, if it is just rain, we will practice, if there is lightening, we will have to change plans, or even cancel for that day.  I will let you know as soon as I can.

Second item for this week, is that Saturday is the annual Deer Chase 5K Family Run/Walk at 9:30am, starting and finishing at the Dog Park in Bunker, west side of the railroad tracks.  The event is a fundraiser for our program and one in which we invite all current, former, and future members of CRCC as well as their families.  We want this to be something that brings everyone together to catch up as well as introduce themselves.  Registration is only the morning of, so starting at 8:00 or so, and is a cost of $10.  You do not have to run, or even walk the whole event (we do want current members of the team to race though for the experience of a 5K), it is more about connections.  We will also need to have a few volunteers to help with registration and course set up, so if you are interested, please let me know.  When we are done, we would like for people to hang around for as long as they want to catch up and even meet the new athletes and parents.

If there are any questions, please let me know.  I will send out more info on the Deer Chase as we get closer.
Thanks
Denny
